Daisy does it herself by Gracie Player {Book tour review}

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

Good morning and welcome, it has been a while since I have written a review on here as I've taken a little break from the blog, but what a book to kick off 2023 and my return to blogging! This was an absolute corker!

Paperback and ebook of Daisy does it herself sat together

Sometimes, the Last Place You Intended to Go is Exactly Where You Need to Be.

When 26-year-old Daisy's life in London comes crashing down around her, the only thing she can think of is getting away - far away. That's how she found herself stumbling off a train in England's picturesque Peak District - 150 miles from home, with no idea why she'd gone there and even less idea how she intended to get home.

As Daisy explores the gorgeous village of Upper Finlay, she glimpses the possibility of a different life. The Derbyshire Dales offer up new friends, new opportunities, and a distractingly dishy object of attraction in the form of local bookstore owner Alex (and his bumbling Great Dane.) When Daisy discovers Alex’s business is in trouble she steps in to save the day.

But London's Calling - literally. The life Daisy ran away from is calling her back. Why then, is she so reluctant to heed its call?

Daisy's got a decision to make: Will she play it safe, and return to what she knew? Or is she brave enough to take a leap of faith and create a bold, new life for herself in the last place she'd ever expected?

Daisy Does it Herself is a sweet, uplifting romantic comedy about the power of self-confidence, friendship and of course love! Fans of warm and witty romantic comedies with a guaranteed happily-ever-after will be entranced.

This was such a fabulous story, I inhaled it in one sitting (stayed up way past my bed time but being shattered at work the next day was totally worth it!). I just could not put it down.

We begin with Daisy feeling like she is winning at life, about to get a promotion, happily loved up with her boyfriend, living in his divine apartment, she is happy, or so she thinks. Suddenly it all crumbles into dust and she feels lost, she ends up jumping on a train and ends up in the middle of nowhere but somehow this is the twist she needs to find herself again.

First off I have to say I took an instant dislike to Phil, his disparaging comments and very lightly veiled snubs about her body and mind really got under my skin and my hackles were raised from the get go. Sometimes you just really don't like a character and he most definitely rubbed me up the wrong way! However he was the only character who did that to me, I absolutely loved the rest of them. Alex and his brother are just heavenly, their motley crew of friends are hilarious, the recluse author had me laughing out loud and let's not forget Wolf. I think he may have been my favourite!

I cannot state how thrilled I was at the setting of the book, a quirky bookstore/cafe set in the Derbyshire Dales is my idea of heaven. It is my dream to own a bookstore one day that hosts all manner of different classes and book clubs so I really immersed myself in the story. The fact that it came with a very dishy, sensitive, kind, romantic owner certainly didn't hurt!

I loved that although there was the hint of potential romance, it wasn't key to the story. The tale was focused mainly on the empowerment of Daisy. Her journey was a huge one, she had spent so long being belittled and snubbed by her boyfriend and her mother that she had lost sight of who she really was. The story allowed her to find her strengths and sharpen her qualiities so that she was able to be a force for good and make a positive impact on everyone she met. I would love to have her in my circle of friends to bring her brand of positivity and get go to the table.

All in all, if you are looking for a positive, comical, strong and heart warming novel then look no further as this one brings a fabulous message of love, friendship, values and books!
