Buried treasure. An ancient mystery. A race against time.

A tiny island, a bossy sister, a clueless uncle. May knew the half-term was going to be a challenge. And that was before she unearths an ancient coin that brings a mythic wolf, an Iron Age girl and greedy treasure-hunters to her door. In a race against time, the children must bury their differences and solve the mystery – even when the quest for truth uncovers a shocking secret closer to home.

A gripping historical mystery of treasure, friendship, and secrets.

This was an adorable children's fantasy tale. It was full of adventure and mystery all the way to the end. There were lots of quirky characters and silliness, especially from their uncle. He was a quirky fisherman who did not seem to even know who the children were half the time let alone interact with them as family! I enjoyed the three male characters who were up to no good, they reminded me of Boggis, Bunce and Bean from Fantastic Mr Fox!

The three children had a lovely sibling dynamic, with the usual fallouts and struggles as well as the need to protect their youngest brother 'Bear' who was just so sweet. I really enjoyed their relationship and watching it unfold alongside the drama related to the mysterious coin that May found.

I loved the cross over from present day to tribal times 2000 years ago, it was really interesting to see the overlap and I loved the historical fiction element with Iris the curator filling them in on a lot of history that linked with the artefacts.

All in all this was a fast paced, interesting story that would keep children and adults alike hooked. It was a quick read and I think it would appeal to many different children. There is humour, mystery, suspense and a little magic. Plus a huge wolf, what is not to love?
